OILWICK® SKIMMERS 25/50/75

OVERVIEW AND METHOD OF OPERATOIN

Your OilWick skimmer (Skimmer) will include the following components:

  1. 10' adjustable brass chain;
  2. Plated eyebolt and S-hook.

This Skimmer recovers hydrocarbon liquids floating on water using an oleophilic wick located under the slotted chamber at the top of your skimmer.

METHOD OF OPERATION

To operate efficiently the oil surface should be between the top and bottom of the slotted section of the chamber (approx 5" vertical). The fastest oil recovery takes place in the top half of the slotted section. The wick is designed to recover an oil layer of any vertical thickness floating on water when it flows through the slotted cover.

The reservoir is always below the fluid surface; ensure that you have sufficient depth of fluid.

INSTALLATION

Permanently attach the upper end of your lifting chain to the wellhead to ensure that you will not lose your Skimmer downhole. Do this prior to conducting any measurements.

Adjust chain length using s-hooks according to the current fluid depth in order to limit the descent of the skimmer. It is important that you know the depth below wellhead of your stabilized upper fluid surface.

The top of the skimmer is open and will flood with water if allowed to sink to the water interface. Ensure that the drain valve at base of Skimmer is closed.

To dissipate any static electricity while emptying, firmly attach a grounding wire between the bottom brass valve and your container prior to opening valve, or ensure the valve or metal skimmer base is in constant contact with your receiving vessel.

Once sufficiently grounded, empty the fluid in the bailer reservoir through the drain valve and into a receiving vessel (ATEX).
